When I received an invite from Health Canada to learn more about nutrition facts labels on our food and how to read them, I was stoked. As someone who tries to pick nutritious foods for our family, I’m constantly checking the nutrition facts tables on food to see which might be better – but it can get confusing quickly!

Is it better to have a ton of fibre? But this cereal has more sugar…. but this one has more sodium… I just end up feeling frustrated at not knowing how to make the right food choices for our household. The Focus on the Facts campaign is meant to better equip Canadians with the know-how to help make healthy food choices easy!

The kids came to Save-On Foods to investigate the nutritional facts and learn more about how to choose healthier food! Do you know how to read a nutritional facts table? It’s not as complicated as you might think! TV host Kristina Matisic and Health Canada presented us with an easy way to learn how to read a Nutrition Facts table. View Post

Trip to New York City

Trip to New York City

I like to travel in my daydreams. I imagine myself on beaches in Fiji, shopping in Malibu, and amidst the hustle and bustle of New York City. I’ve been thinking of a lot of Manhattan lately and its’ high-rise buildings and multi-faceted neighbourhoods. The beautiful skylines above just add fuel to my wanderlust!

When I travel I like to pack lightly and thoughtfully, adding only what I need in my carry-on.  My biggest pet peeve is getting to my destination and having to iron the wrinkles out of my clothes… and then I discovered Downy Wrinkle Releaser Plus in a travel-friendly bottle. The stuff really works – just spritz on your clothing and it will be wrinkle-free, oder-free and static-free in no time at all! Just spray, tug, smooth and hang – no iron needed. View Post

Spring break is upon us – which used to mean a break from teachers and books and homework… but now it means our children are home and B-O-R-E-D and it’s our job as parents to entertain them (NOT). I’m a huge believer in allowing our children to get bored, but sometimes even that gets old.

Kids Skiing in Whistler Blackcomb

With a full-time job it can be difficult to get away for spring break, so this year we’re opting for a ‘Staycation’. We sat down as a family and thought of fun and different things to do on each day of Spring Break. Some of these things are indoors, some are new, some are favourites – check out some of our ideas below! View Post

I have become fascinated with my own aging.

Is that considered narcissistic?

I revel in the little silver grey hairs that add sparkle to the part in my hair.

The laugh lines forming around my lips and the crinkles that explode when I smile so hard that my cheeks hurt.

My body is not youthful.

Stretch marks, a ‘mummy tummy’, cellulite, a c-section scar, not-so-plump breasts…

It all tells a story. All of it is a part of my life and a part of me.

Sometimes I’ll look in the mirror and notice the changes in my body.

When did that happen?

It’s all changing, all the time, and it makes me smile.

It makes me hopeful that all this change can make me a better person. That I can learn from everything that I’ve done and everything that I’ve lived through. That things will get better (and worse and better again).

That I can be happy despite and because of everything that I’ve gone through.

I see the beauty in aging.
