Henry Built Kitchens

When we first built our home, we had dreams of a minimal and industrial inspired kitchen. (You can see some kitchen inspirations here and here – and you can see what our kitchen actually looks like here!) What did we do to achieve our desired look? We customized a few Ikea cabinets and created our own 18′ long kitchen island out of reclaimed wood fir beams that we burnt and sealed. It looks great and was on budget, however it wasn’t the most practical solution, as time would quickly tell… View Post

Many women dream of starting a family and having children one day, some even attempt to plan out their lives accordingly in order to make it happen. But the reality is that things don’t always go to plan, and conceiving a child does not come as easily as some might think. In Canada, fertility issues have risen in the past several decades, with 1 in 6 Canadian couples now experiencing fertility-related problems.

It’s difficult for a couple that is struggling with infertility to be excited and happy about starting a family when the stress and pressures of infertility get in the way. With National Infertility Awareness Week around the corner (May 12th – 20th), Dr. David Greenberg, Family Physician at St. Joseph Hospital, has some tips to help start the family planning. Working late each day doesn’t seem as hard when the sun stays out longer. Spring has definitely arrived here in Vancouver! Waking up before 6am isn’t too bad when the sun is already peeking out – and there’s a 4-shot espresso waiting for me at Starbucks on the way to work!

Have you tried the new Starbucks app feature that allows you to order + pay before you get to Starbucks, and then pick it up without waiting in line? I have to admit, I feel like I’m back in school and butting in line. Everyone seems to be watching as you bypass the order line-up, head straight to the pick up counter, and see your name on a cup that’s waiting for you 🙂 I’m sure I look so smug…! View Post

When I was a girl of ten years old, I remember watching my mom taking care of her skin each day. She would tell me to always moisturize the neck, and use night creams to take care of your skin at night. I remember going through her massive collection of skincare products – glass pots with rich creams, bottles with nice smelling lotions, and tiny tubes filled with wrinkle-reducing promises.

As an adult, I am very conscious of taking care of my skin, whether it’s drinking a ton of water, wearing SPF or staying out of the sun when possible, and taking in healthy fats that are essential to keeping your skin looking great. My latest skincare obsession is the Absolutely Ageless™ Collection from Aveeno®! Keeping reading to get a coupon to try it yourself! View Post

Black and White Outdoor Spaces

The warmer weather has arrived and it’s making me want to spend every sun-filled moment outdoors! The last thing on our ‘build our own house‘ project is the landscaping and deck. Oh! How I long for our deck to be completed! I dream of having barbeques, afternoon naps, late night talks surrounded by candlelight…. But until then, I wanted to share some beautiful black and white design inspiration! View Post

I’ve been thinking a lot about balance lately. As I get older, I realize that I am not someone who embraces routine wholeheartedly. I am someone who has a hard time doing the same thing everyday – whether it’s ordering the same drink, eating the same food, or having the same schedule each day. I find it monotonous, ultimately.

I am constantly receiving emails that are supposed to help my life – you know the ones: “Say Yes to Life” and “The 5 Things You Should Be Doing Each Morning”, etc, et. al.  They frustrate me because they all say the same thing: you should be doing A, B, C, and D each day to give yourself a great start, or that in order to be successful in business and in life, you should do 1, 2, and 3 or else you don’t even stand a chance.
