A Tween’s First Shopping Trip

Tween Shopping at Triple Flip

I took my tween daughter on her first shopping trip and she absolutely loved it! For so long, I avoided taking a trip to the mall and instead, I was an avid online shopper. But when online purchases arrived and weren’t the perfect fit, it became a bother. My daughter was growing up and she needed to start trying on and choosing her own clothing.

However, I still hesitated. I remember being 12 years old and absolutely hating shopping for my growing body. Things never seemed to fit right, and I didn’t want to wear a ‘big’ size. Although I wasn’t an overweight kid, I had a really hard time with body image and self love while growing up. I didn’t want my 10 year old to get frustrated with her body at such a young age.

At the same time, I wanted her to be creative and see fashion as a way for self-expression. I longed for her to slowly discover the fun clothing could bring to your life, different patterns, quality of fabrics, and how a great outfit could make you feel! I was hoping for a positive, self-loving shopping experience for a tween girl who needs a summer wardrobe…

For her first shopping trip, we went to Triple Flip, a Canadian brand known for its high-quality tween clothing. There are two locations in the Vancouver area, the one we checked out at the Coquitlam Centre, and another in South Surrey. At first glance, the shop looks bold and bright, with pops of colours and textures, it almost looked like a candy store for clothes!

My daughter loves the clothing and accessories at Triple Flip. She was drawn to the Minky Collection, and fell in love with the summer accessories, like the funky sunglasses, bright flip flops, and bubbly backpacks! She had so much fun choosing ‘whatever she wanted’ to try on!

The one aspect to Triple Flip that really made me feel good about bringing my daughter there, is that they promote a healthy lifestyle and body confidence to young girls. I really like their sizing system, which uses numbers 1-6 instead of S-M-L-XL, so girls can focus on finding clothing that fits them, rather than worrying about the size on the label.

We held an impromptu fashion show at Triple Flip and my daughter had a ton of fun accessorizing with scarves, sunnies, and different footwear. She modeled all types of clothing that she may have normally not tried, and she fell in love with some of them. Comfort is a huge factor in her clothing, so she adored some of the leggings, the flowy tops, and the onesie!

I think both my daughter and I were super stoked with the shopping experience at Triple Flip. The ladies working there were super helpful, and created a fun atmosphere by suggesting different styles and accessories to try on. My daughter chose a few clothing items that she absolutely loved – no tears or tantrums! The shopping trip was a success!

Unfortunately Triple Flip has now closed its’ doors!

That place sounds a whole lot like Justice here in the States. They too have numbered sizes & such fun clothes. However, my youngest will be fifteen in less than three months & a Freshman in high school, she’s past the Justice stage now & when she told me that, my heart broke a lil cuz I really enjoyed shopping there for & with her.

I’m glad that your lil lady had a great time & found some cute outfits. 🙂
