Becoming a vegan is not as hard as you think it might be, but going vegan as a family can be a bit tricky! I’ve quickly discovered that going vegan is easy when you make an abundance of delicious vegan meals – crowding out whatever meat and dairy may have been in your diet before with an abundance of veggies, whole grains, and plant-based proteins.
Yes, going vegan can be easy. But throw in an 11 year old that won’t eat onions or peppers, and a 5 year old whose dream diet consists of pizza and cheeseburgers, and suddenly going vegan as a family becomes a little more difficult. Here are some tips and tricks I’ve learned this past week on how to go vegan as a family without losing your mind!
Do you ever look around your house and think – Where did all this STUFF come from?
It happens to the best of us. It happens to the ‘us’ that strive for minimalism in their daily life. It happens to mostly all of us. Especially when there are kids added to the equation.
I’m fairly diligent when it comes to purging toys and clothes, and donating or recycling them. I try to go through closets on a monthly basis to take out things that don’t fit right, I pull out toys that are no longer played with, but in all honestly, I usually do this alone.
Why do get rid of excess toys and clothes by myself? Because it’s easier!
There’s no children around to watch you get rid of their suddenly ‘favourite’ toys, their prized possessions that haven’t been touched in months… No whining about favourite t-shirts that are two sizes too small – it takes a lot faster to go through it quickly, throw it in a box, and donate it that same day.
But then it occurred to me that there’s no children watching me purge the excess stuff.
Kids do as they see – not necessarily what they’re told. They learn by watching. They see the example you set for them and they will follow it. Nobody likes to be lectured to and told what to do. And if the kids aren’t watching me remove the stuff that’s no longer needed, just hearing about it, how will they really understand? View Post
Do you remember when the Fitbit first came out years ago? Women everywhere were getting them for Christmas, for birthdays, or just because it was the coolest, newest thing – and everyone was obsessed with it. I would see people in the grocery store wearing their FitBits, my Facebook feed regularly included a Fitbit meme, and people bragged about their steps on IG.
I rolled my eyes at all of it. View Post
Today is Day Two to a Healthier Me!
I’m still feeling super motivated and excited about the changing our lifestyles and heading on a healthier path. Which is great but being the eternal realist I know that the feeling will probably dissipate over the next few weeks and I have to be prepared for that!
And I’m still getting the hang of trying to cook vegan, quickly, easily, and without thinking. Today I worked in the Village, out of the house. I started my day off with water and lemon, and then a green smoothie (spinach, goji berries, mango, flax meal, protein powder, almond milk), which held me over for a while. I got a matcha latte (made with soy milk) and a vegan energy ball at a cafe, where I worked for a while. View Post
Today is Day One to a healthier me.
I’ve embarked on a 90 days journey for my health. Why? What do I hope to achieve at the end of these 90 days? I want to lose weight, of course but that’s not all. I want to feel stronger in my body, I want to keep up with my kids, and I want to be happy with myself. I want to feel healthy.
And I’ve got to start somewhere.
So today is the first of my 90 days to health, and I want to share with you how I’m doing this. View Post
For years and years I’ve moaned on about how I need to lose some weight. That the baby weight is sticking around. Trying different diets and adding things to my diet and hoping for some type of long term result but never seeing any real change. It’s getting frustrating.
I’ve made some small changes in these past few months. I’ve attempted to put myself first instead of always last in the family, I’ve added smoothies for breakfast and I start my day off with lemon water. I’ve been more aware of what I’ve been eating, but then I go for days eating heavy meals and lots of alcohol. I’ll lose 5 pounds and gain 10 back. View Post
So in a recent poll, 95% of moms say that they had more time for themselves before motherhood. Well, duh! I mean, I feel the 5% that think they had the same or more time for themselves now were drunk when the poll was taken. And 58% of moms admit to sneaking in TV “me-time” while juggling a busy schedule, even hiding it from their kids for a moment of peace.
My hand is up! I take part in a #MomSneak at least once a week. Is your hand up, too? View Post
You guys! I can’t wait for Wanderlust Whistler – it happens one week from now!! My last experience at Wanderlust was three whole years ago, and I have such fond memories of the amazing people I met (some of whom I’m still friends with now!), the delicious food I ate, the music and the varieties of yoga classes I was exposed to.
In case you have no idea what Wanderlust is, it’s an incredible festival focusing on yoga, music, and wellness that take place all over the world in awe-inspiring locations. Wanderlust Whistler is from August 3rd – 6th, and the schedule is packed full of amazing yoga classes, inspirational talks, outdoor activities, and fun experiences. View Post
One of the first things on my summer bucket list was to take a road trip – and mission accomplished because the Wyld family took off for 10 days on an awesome cross-province road trip from Whistler to Fernie, BC! We had a great family road trip (it went so much better than I expected!) and I would recommend a trip to Fernie for anyone that
Fernie is a small mountain town located in the south-east corner of British Columbia. It’s famous for the snow that falls in the winter, but the summer is a beautiful time to go and really appreciate Fernie! Fernie has a beautiful historic downtown, surrounded by sweeping mountain vistas that are absolutely stunning. It’s the perfect place to for a family vacation in the summer or winter – because there’s an abundance of fun activities to do for all ages! View Post
Summer is now in full swing! The bright sunny days and warmer weather are getting me super excited for some of the things I’m planning this summer! I’m super stoked to share with you my summer bucket list and the fun things we’re planning in the next couple of months!
Go on a road trip!
This weekend we’re taking off on a road trip to beautiful Fernie, BC. That’s a 11-hour trip one way – but of course, we’re going the loong way through Revelstoke, and spending a night there, too! I’m so stoked for mountain biking, hiking, the aerial park, and checking out the gorgeous town of Fernie, too!
I’m really looking forward to snapping some amazing photos with my camera (gotta dust that baby off and charge up the battery!), because the scenery is going to be amazing! View Post
Summer is finally here – the skies are blue, the sun is shining, and it is hot out there. I am loving it! I love having our patio doors wide open, the kids are able to play outside all day long, and we can enjoy a meal and a drink outside on the deck. It’s heaven. I should be living in Hawaii or Malibu.
With the lovely weather I’ve been inspired to move more – yes, I get super sweaty and gross. The definition of a hot mess. Who cares? I wish I was inspired to work out more when it was winter, but it’s the sunshine that makes me want to move it and lose it! The weight, that is. Bad pun?
Over the last few years I’ve been seen the pictures and glanced in full length mirrors at clothing stores, and I’ve been watching myself slip away. I don’t recognize myself anymore. When I weigh myself I get stunned. How did I get here? How did I allow this to happen? View Post
