Watching TV with your kids isn’t always fun, trust me, I’ve been through numerous episodes of Paw Patrol and Larva and Dragons only to tune it out because… well, the kids love it, and I’m glad they enjoy it – but it’s totally not my jam, obviously. So, when we discover a show we can all watch together as a family, I relish it!
Our favourite show on Netflix is Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, the woman who survived 15 years in a bunker and now lives in New York City with her fabulous roommate and a slew of incredibly hilarious characters. The show is hilariously funny, full of double entendres and silly puns, but there’s more than just mindless fluff that makes this a great show to watch with tweens. View Post
How often do you take some time to relax and take care of yourself? How often do you spark your inner creativity? Self care and creativity are connected, and when you’re a mom or a creative entrepreneur – or BOTH – it can be hard to find the time to take care of oneself. So, how do you practice self-care when you’re a mompreneur or a creative hustler?
I get bursts of creativity, and they don’t often happen in front of a computer screen when I actually need them the most. Nope, my creativity comes out when I’m far from my office, and I’m out in nature or moving my body. A quick 5-minute walk can set my mind in motion, and usually turns into a 20-minute walk – and the funny thing is that before I go for that walk, I tell myself that I don’t have time for it. I have a secret love for dark chocolate. Well, maybe it’s not so secret, but dark chocolate is definitely my favourite snack and it’s something I indulge in almost everyday! Dark chocolate is luxurious, it’s full of complex flavours, and it satisfies my cravings every single time.
I was happy to discover barkTHINS because they satisfy my cravings for dark chocolate with quality Fair Trade and real non-GMO ingredients! barkTHINS are thin pieces of Fair Trade dark chocolate mixed with simple ingredients like toasted coconut, pumpkin seeds, pretzels, and almonds.
Have you ever had your house up for sale? It’s all about keeping it in pristine condition just in case a showing appears! It can be stressful to keep a house clean all the time, let alone have it smell good, too! With spring finally arriving, it’s time for some spring cleaning – the minimalist way, because I love a nice, clean home, but I’m not about to waste all my time cleaning! Enter the Minimalists Guide to Spring Cleaning! View Post
Do you think watching television can bring a family together? I do. We don’t watch a ton of TV, we try to limit it to the weekend or a short show during the week, and usually just before bed. It’s a time for us to relax and chill, hang out with each other, laugh together and discuss different things together.
Even when our kids were little babies, it’s so much fun to watch a kids show with them, singing and clapping along with the program. Growing up, I remember watching a lot of movies with my parents and sister, and it was always a ton of fun. From hilarious comedies to action movies or serious dramas, it brought us together and gave us something to talk about!
My time in Israel flew by so quickly, but I did so many things in such a short amount of time that I’m still processing my travels, weeks later. It’s not so much that we did so many things that I can’t remember all of them, it’s that every thing we did sparked something in me. It inspired me, comforted me, charged me, it made me crave more, it made me more curious, it motivated me – and how do you put an experience like that into words? View Post
Every once in a while, I love to treat my readers (that’s YOU!) with a lovely little giveaway! I always think – if I had you over what would we do? Well, I’d probably take you out for some window shopping, and a nice coffee & treat, where we’d discuss life, love, and shoes! View Post
I started blogging a LOOONG time ago, when my daughter was first born, back in 2006. Only back then, I would write fictional short stories about shopping and dating in the city – think a short-form version of the Shopaholic series. It wasn’t too long before I grew tired of writing ‘fantasies’ and started playing around with ‘online journaling’.
Online journaling was quite different – it was private, written behind a pseudonym and an icon that was most definitely not yourself. My pseudonym? ‘Fab Brunette’. Which eventually turned into a “real blog” named Ramblings of a Fab Brunette. It wasn’t until 2009 that I bought my first domain and the rest became history – well, not quite.
Growing up is a funny thing – I have no regrets, and I enjoy looking back at the person I was and seeing how much I’ve grown and changed since then. I think it was about 2011 or 2012 when I became tired of the ‘Fab Brunette’ persona, partially because I had moved across the country to a small mountain town, started doing yoga and embracing ‘hippie’ ways – and I had no where to wear my Manolos. How do you get your kids to brush their teeth? Do you use a timer? Do you sing a song? To get my kids to brush their teeth properly, we sing the “Happy Birthday” song! It’s an easy trick to help get them in the mindset to brush their teeth longer, and properly, too! And my daughter being 11 and in French Immersion gets to sing “Joyeux Anniversaire” while she brushes her teeth!
This month it’s National Oral Health Care month, and it’s the perfect reminder to pay special attention to our teeth and our children’s teeth! Poor oral health can lead to gum disease, which can lead to teeth loss… I don’t need to go on, right? View Post
Squamish, BC is once again the beautiful host city for the Canadian Internet Marketing Conference in 2017. I absolutely love it because it’s a gorgeous and serene setting for a very tech conference – and it’s close to home!
Here’s why YOU Need to go to a Conference!
CIMC blows my mind each and every year – it’s a conference that provides a wealth of knowledge like nothing else! Bringing together agencies, brands, and small business owners to talk all things digital, there are speakers from Google, Microsoft, AOL, Buzzfeed, Pixar, and a ton more people, all of whose brains I can’t wait to hear from! School lunches have always been a struggle with me and my kids. ALWAYS. There are times when I put a LOT of effort into school lunches, and I’ll make pasta and rice dishes and really good meals! And there are other times where I go for a “tapas” style lunch – meaning an assortment of finger foods that I found in my fridge and pantry (think crackers, hummus, veggies, fruits, cheese…).
Either way, my kids prefer variety – too many days of the same thing and they revolt and will. not. eat. lunch. I try to alternate between a warm dish, some sushi, a wrap, or a sandwich – but a plain sandwich will NOT do. For some reason, my children believe that a plain sandwich is no where near as yummy as a “cute” sandwich. View Post
