Kids furniture should be durable, stylish, and affordable, and the ‘green’ choices at BuyGreen.com are also eco-friendly! I have a really tough time finding furniture for my kids – it’s either over-priced or cheaply made, and I certainly don’t want to spent a ton of money on furniture that will likely be turned into art by way of crayons and highlighters! I try to find used furniture pieces to add to my home, sometimes refurbishing an item can give it a new life in a home! However, it isn’t exactly affordable purchasing a used piece of ‘modern’ furniture (if it has ‘mid-century’ in the title, watch for extra zero’s added!).
I am always scouring the BuyGreen site for items that are needed in my home – this online shop has absolutely everything eco-friendly including clothing, health and beauty products, items for your office, and even furniture! I was super curious about the line of WayBasics furniture made of zBoards, which claims to be the ‘World’s Easiest Assembly’, and uses no tools to put their furniture together.
The prices were very affordable and the modular cube storage was modern and fun! The shelving is light-weight but strong, each shelf can still hold about 50 pounds of weight. After some long decision making, we finally chose the Madison Bookcase for my daughter’s room (which BuyGreen supplied to us for review – thank you!). Since moving, we still hadn’t completed her bedroom (…it’s only been 5 months!) and it was difficult for her to keep her room clean and tidy. See the before picture after the jump!
This ‘before’ picture makes me shudder because this is a picture of a clean room. That’s what her room looked like when she tidied up, as you can see, we needed storage, and in a bad way! My little toddler was my helper in putting together the shelves.
The instructions were in full-colour and very easy to understand. The shelves, which are made of zBoards, are super light and easy to pick up and move around. There are no screws and no hammering, the shelves are put together by peeling off a sticker and using cardboard dowels to hold it all together.
I looked through all the shelves to ensure which side was which, and from there it was very easy to put together. Simply peeling off a backing, sticking the shelf onto another, and securing with the cardboard dowels made it the easiest furniture I’ve ever put together – and I’m a PRO at putting together furniture from a certain Swedish warehouse.
My son even got into the swing of things and quickly became the ‘dowel dude’. I would place the shelf where it needed to go, removed the sticker backing, and he would put the dowels in. This is the quickest piece of furniture I’ve ever put together. Total time: 10 minutes.
Once the furniture is together (it took 10 minutes!), you can easily move it around since it’s super light, but it’s advised to always move it from the bottom. I love the shape of the Madison Bookcase, it’s modern and simple, but still very interesting and great for displaying art, toys, and books.
It’s a piece of furniture that is affordable, easy to put together, lightweight, and made completely of recycled material. It’s cleans easily, but if permanent ‘child damage’ happens (ie. markers, highlights, pens, paints, etc!) I won’t feel bad about destroying a piece of furniture because it’s affordable and completely recyclable.
Disclosure: The amazing team at BuyGreen.com gifted me with the Madison Bookcase for review, however all opinions expressed here are my own.
