Oktoberfest in Leavenworth

Oktoberfest in Leavenworth

A Bavarian-style village that serves huge beers, tons of bratwurst with sauerkraut, and is surrounded by mountains, rivers and forests – Leavenworth is a little slice of heaven. We had such Β great time there with the family, we explored, ate, drank, and were merry – Jay even snuck in a mountain bike ride! Below is the view from our hotel room at the Icicle Resort – waking up to that every day made me smile.

The village itself was basically adorable. Everything is Bavarian styled – even Starbucks and McDonalds looked like quaint German shops! We went for the last weekend of OktoberfestΒ in Leavenworth, which is celebrated for a month. While the town itself is a fun place to walk around and shop in, there are some great outdoor activities as well. The Waterfront Park is beautiful, especially now with all the leaves changing colours on the trees. There’s nice open trails to walk along the river and let the kids play!

06Chanel found some wicked ‘Minecraft’-style glasses (I have the game on every piece of technology I own, and I still don’t get it!) and wore them for the rest of the trip, while wreaking havoc on her scooter throughout town. There was a ton of live entertainment on the streets, in the festival hall, and in most of the restaurants.

09We ate at some delicious restaurants as well. The first night we stumbled upon Idlewild Pizza, upon Chanel’s request for pizza – and it turned out to be this super hip wood-fired pizza place that was so yummy. Another night we decided we were overloaded with German sausage so we went to South, a Latin food eatery. Great tacos, great carnitas plate, and a delicious serve-yourself salsa bar!

Other notables: Icicle Brewing Company was a great relaxed little place, Munchen Haus was a perfect place to sit outdoors and eat awesome pretzels with cheese dip and sausage, and Sausage Garten by Cured was also a cute outdoor spot with their own made sausages.

10I took one last look at the view out the window, said Auf Wiedersehen to our hotel room and to Oktoberfest in Leavenworth, and we took off on a long drive home. We went a different way this time, essentially making a loop and travelling through a part of Washington and British Columbia that neither of us had before. It added about 3 hours to our drive but it was worth it!

15Leavenworth was a great place to go with the family, and I think that I would go again for their Christmas Lighting Festival, because it looks so gorgeous. We were super lucky with the beautiful, sunny weather and our great kids who had an awesome trip!

It was definitely a lot of fun, Oktoberfest is the thing to do here, so it’s a great place to do it. However the real thing in Germany would be even better!

Awwww…..one of my favorite places! πŸ™‚ we love going at christmastime. They do a Christmas tree lighting and there are lights everywhere. Plus there’s usually snow, and that makes it even more picture perfect. πŸ™‚ we usually stay in one of the condos at the icicle inn….so fun and relaxing. Glad you guys had such a fun time!

I think next time we’ll stay in the condos at the icicle inn, just for the extra space πŸ™‚ I am a huge sucker for Christmas lights so I’m definitely going to have to see it!

You would love it – however the food choices out east are a bit more indulgent!

Leavenworth is our favorite place to visit. It is especially beautiful during Christmas Lighting Festival.

Idlewild Pizza you visited just opened a few weeks ago. We went there on opening weekend. Loved it. South is also one of our favorite places.

Next time you go, drop by our website first. We built a website with our reviews of places to eat and stay in Leavenworth. We also have all the events happening in town.

This place looks beautiful, especially how it’s nestled in those mountains. It reminds me a bit of Solvang, too. Maybe one day we’ll make a trip that way. Oh, FYI, we’ll be in Victoria for a day in June! πŸ™‚ Lol.
